Israel Ka’ano’i Kamakawiwo’ole (20.05.59 — 26.06.97) is a Hawaiian musician who performed songs to the accompaniment of the ukulele-ukulele. Playing on a small four-stringed Hawaiian guitar began in early childhood. His albums have won numerous awards and appeared in the American charts. Throughout his career he promoted and defended the rights of the inhabitants of Hawaii as an independent nation, speaking for the sovereignty of the Islands. All this was reflected in his songs and lifestyle.
It was called “Gentle Giant” because with the growth of 190 cm and a weight of 343 kg, he’s a very gentle voice singing an incredibly touching song. The day of the funeral of Israel, on the island were at half-mast all the flags. He was only the third person to receive this honor. He was and still is a true legend!
